The PADI Enriched Air Diver course is the most popular PADI specialty. Because? Because diving with enriched air gives you more non-stop time, especially in repetitive dives. If you are interested in staying in the water longer and diving again sooner, then do not hesitate to become an enriched air diver.
If you are at least 12 years old and you are at least PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver, you can enroll in the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Note that in some regions, the required minimum age is higher.
In addition to the nitrox equipment considerations, you will learn why, by immersing yourself in air that contains more oxygen and less nitrogen, you have more bottom time. During a practice session and two optional dives (or requests):
You will discuss how to manage oxygen exposure. You will practice the analysis of the oxygen content of your cylinder. You will set up your dive computer with nitrox enriched air.
Thanks to the PADI Enriched Air Diver course, you could get school credits. Ask your instructor how to do it.
Most modern equipment and dive computers can be used with enriched air, but your PADI Instructor will confirm whether what you own meets the manufacturer's recommendations and local requirements. However, the cylinders will have to meet standard oxygen requirements and be dedicated to use with enriched air. You will practice the use of oxygen analyzers and special decals for cylinders.
