Description
Exploration, Excitement, Experience
That's what the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course is! You don't have to be "advanced" to enroll - it is designed to advance your diving, so you can start immediately after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification. Through various Adventure Dives, the course helps you develop your self confidence and expand your skills. You experience several specialty dives while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. As you discover new ways to enjoy yourself, you will log your dives and develop different skills.
Get credit! Each Adventure Dive may be credited as the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver course. If you have already completed a specialty course, ask your instructor if this counts as credit for an Adventure Dive.
Who is this course for?
If you are at least 12 years old and are a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver, you are ready to go one step further and enroll in the Advanced Open Water Diver course. Younger divers can only participate in certain Adventure Dives - ask your PADI Instructor for information.
If you already have the Adventure Diver certification, you only need to complete two other Adventure Dives to achieve the Advanced Open Water Diver.
Academic
With your instructor, you will organize your learning by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. Two dives are required - Deep and Underwater Navigation - and you will choose the remaining three, for a total of five dives.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you will learn how to plan dives to manage the physiological effects and issues of deeper dives. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive hones your navigation skills with the compass and, thanks to the use of kick cycles, visual cues and time, helps you navigate better.
The other knowledge and skills you will gain depend on your interests and the adventures you will experience - photography, buoyancy control, fish identification, shipwreck exploration and many more.
Thanks to the Advanced Open Water Diver course, you may be able to earn college credit.
Equipment
In addition to your basic equipment, you will need a compass and a diving knife or cutting tool. Also, depending on the Adventure Dive you choose, you may need to use specialist equipment. For example, for the Dry Suite Adventure Dive it goes without saying that you will use a dry suit and for the Sidemount Adventure Dive, a sidemount setup. Your PADI Instructor will show you the equipment you will need, and may recommend more, such as a night dive torch or a search and recovery balloon.
At our diving center we will provide you with all the equipment you need to start your Advanced Open Water Diver course.
